Pupuseria y Restaurante Maria is a gem in Jacksonville, offering a rare find of pupusas, and it's become one of my favorites. The chorizo and cheese pupusas are a standout, though the plain cheese and bean and cheese options are equally delightful. Prepared in about 10 minutes, these large, steaming hot pupusas with subtle grill marks provide a slight char flavor. Accompanied by a bag of curtido and sauce, the classic and comforting flavors are truly exceptional. I've also indulged in their plates, including fried chicken and rice, various soups (i believe they are seasonal because they are available every time but they're worth the wait), and the churrasco plate. Every dish, made fresh, brings the comfort of a home cooked meal with nostalgic flavors. A must visit local spot!

The food is amazing. Service excellent. The drive from our home to the restaurant was well worth the drive. My wife and I had our first taste in NY and we are so very happy to have found a place that invokes those wonderful memories and makes our tastebuds happy!

If you're looking for authentic and delicious Central American food, this is your spot. I came across by this restaurant looking and decided to stop and I am so happy I did. Pupusas are one of the best I've had. The encurtido is fresh and compliments everything well. The carne asada con tajadas is also so flavorful and the portions are HUGE. You can definitely get two meals out of it. Star of the show was definitely the Pollo frito con Tajadas. The chicken was so juicy and perfectly crunchy on the outside. Amazing quality!

I've been craving pupusas' lately and was actually driving down University Blvd. in route to another restaurant that serves them, when I glanced over and saw Maria's pupuseria! I about tweaked my neck out of alignment looking back, i couldn't believe what timing! This is an excellent little neighborhood gem!!! I ordered the bean and cheese pupusas which comes 3 to an order with the obligatory side of curtido ( a cabbage slaw) and tomato salsa (which was amazing). They also have several other filling choices from chicken to the authentic loroco bud flowers. I also ordered the especial baleadas with steak (carne de Res). Everything was fantastic and had leftovers enough for next day! I highly recommend this restaurant and recommend you go asap!
